May Art News from Evy Okerstrom
“Bird on Boat” available for purchase at the Hub or online!
Each month has a special significance; however, May seems to be the month of Celebration. There is Derby Day, Mothers Day and Memorial Day to name a few. Some people are celebrating their graduation, and moving on to a new life. Each one is an example of an achievement that was set aside to celebrate so we do not forget it. So, how can we connect these events to the art world? There is always the beauty and art of the horses running in the Kentucky Derby. Mother’s Day is often remembered in flowery art forms, is a day to recall the creative energy that women have given to inspire others. Memorial Day is the day we remember men and women who have died while serving in the Armed Forces. Sculpture and paintings vividly recall these events. As for me, I celebrate the fact that I did workshops this past year, and helped twenty-three wonderful ladies learn about watercolor. Now, I have some other news, and dates to remember….
Talk Art, Saturday, May 4, 2019: I will be at The Hub on Canal, from 1 pm to 2 pm. This is a continuation of the spring weekly lecture series at the Hub. I will talk about the history of watercolor painting. In addition, I will show what I have been doing in the workshops. I will announce the dates of my fall workshops, and give a general outline of what I will cover. I will have a signup sheet if you want to be notified. Later this month or early June, I will have handouts.
“The Blue Vase” available for purchase at the Hub or online!
“Wonderful Watercolor” The Artist’s Workshop Gallery on Canal Street, is now open from 10 am to 4 pm, Monday through Friday. The show will be up until May 30, 2019. It is worth taking the time to see what talent there is here in New Smyrna Beach. Note: Almost all the artwork is for sale.
Evy Okerstrom Workshop Monday, April 8, 2019: This was a great workshop and although there were only three ladies attending, it was very successful. We did some warm up exercises using the pen and ink drawings that I had done a few years ago. The use of salt on the watercolor made for some very nice effects on the vase we were drawing. I am going to include some pictures from that day.
Community Gallery at Dr. Elizabeth Daquila’s Office: The paintings are now hanging in her office. Dr. Daquila told me that this is the best group of paintings she has had in her office. The patients have really enjoyed them. I made a list of the artists work and gave it to the Office Manger. The list has the title, medium, cost and contact information for each piece. If there is any interest or questions about the artwork, she will contact the artist directly.
Website Shopping Cart: Thank you to those who tried out the shopping cart and bought some of my cards. I mailed them out as soon as I received the payment so I was pleased at how easy that was on my end. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns about this. Thank you again for your support.
Here is my thought for today: “If you work just for money, you’ll never make it, but if you love what you’re doing and you always put the customer first, success will be yours.”
