On July 4, 2019, the United States will celebrate the 243rd birthday of our country. By coincidence this is the 1st Anniversary of my blog writing career. The “buzz “ word sustainability came to my mind when I thought about how long the United States has been in existence. The word is defined as meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs.
I researched how this could relate to my artwork. It seems there are three main pillars to sustainability: people, planet and profits. The “planet pillar” gets the most attention. It relates to saving our environment. For me it means that I must use good materials in my artwork such as high quality paper that will last, and brushes that are sturdy. I make sure all my paints are non-toxic, and any waste water can be recycled. Next month I will talk more about these pillars and will follow up with “people”
Now, I have some other news, and dates to remember….including an announcement of a new calendar.
“Flowers on a Yellow Table” available for purchase at the Hub or online!
First Saturday, July 6th: I will be at The Hub on Canal, from 10 am to 2 pm. My usual plan is to set up a table in the Lobby. The theme this month on Canal Street is Christmas in July. So, I will have some of my Christmas cards available in case someone is shopping early. Also, this month I am helping with the Members Show and will be participating in the reception that is from 4 pm to 7 pm. Publix will provide the refreshments and wine will be flowing! Now, here is more information about the show:
“Celebration”: the Third Annual Hub Members Show: This is going to be the best show ever! We have 48 members who have entered the show. The members chose any medium they wanted to use. There will be several 3 dimensional pieces in addition to the 2 dimensional ones. The show runs: July 6, 2019 thru Saturday, July 27, 2019. There will be a reception Saturday, July 6th from 4 pm to 7 pm. We are going to award “fun” prizes at 6 pm. So be sure to be there.
All of these cards are available for purchase at the Hub or online!
“Surfs Up”: The Artists’ Workshop Gallery will have a new show opening Saturday, July 6, 2019. It will be up for the month of July and August. This show has an ocean theme… anything related to the ocean, waves, swimmers, sea life, shells, etc. I am going to enter one of my watercolor paintings from the series done at Canaveral National Seashore. The gallery, located at 115 Canal Street, NSB, is now open from 10 am to 4 pm, Wednesday through Friday. (Summer hours) The Admission is free.
“Friends at Canaveral Beach” will be entered into the “Surf’s Up” Exhibit. A watercolor on paper, which can be purchased for $250
Look out For This: I am working on a new calendar for 2020. It will be in a different format but will still be a 13 month calendar. The calendar page will be a bit larger so you will have more space for notes. I hope to have it available July or August.
Here is my thought for today: “Odd as I am sure it will appear to some, I can think of no form of personal involvement in the cure of the environment than that of gardening. A person, who is growing a garden, if he is growing it organically, is improving a piece of the world.” Wendell Berry, The Art of the Commonplace: The Agrarian Essays
